Concept, design, and fabrication for exhibits at this state park in Northeast Pennsylvania. One of several projects completed for the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and winner of the 2021 NAI Interior Exhibit award.
Early workshops with park staff revealed the goals of the project—encouraging visitors to explore the many environments of the park in safe and sustainable ways—and the Big Idea: Nature Did This. From there, the design followed easily: surround visitors in nature, with interpretation secondary and focused on how these places came to be.
The experience begins with a view to life-size environments. As visitors explore those, they discover interpretation tucked behind. Even here, words are minimized and poetic: evocative rather than didactic.
