Harriet Beecher Stowe House

Cincinnati, OH
2023
The Ohio History Connection selected Amplifier to lead an Interpretive Planning process for the house of the author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin, later a lodge listed in The Traveler’s Green Book.

The Stowe House is in a historically Black neighborhood and was saved, in large part, with Black leadership in the 1950s. Yet its audience today does not represent the neighborhood or the history. Our process began with outreach and research into Cincinnati’s Black community to find voices that could help us understand the mismatch and envision new possibilities. Those voices were invited into the planning.

The outcomes of the plan center on sharing authority and sharing space, referencing other organizational models including the Wing Luke Museum in Seattle.
